Tattoo Age is back. In Season Two VICE travels the world to feature different artists from all ends of the tattoo spectrum, including Valerie Vargas of the UK, Mutsuo of Japan, and Thom deVita of New York City. Each artists’ episodes will include three installments, airing every Wednesday on VICE.COM.
First up – Valerie Vargas, whose first installment will air next Wednesday, September 12th.
In the third and final episode of the Freddy Corbin series, we see exclusive footage of Freddy parachuting at the age of 24 and hear the personal, intimate details of his young life and career – from the early days of his drug abuse, to living in Amsterdamâ€™s Red Light District, his brotherâ€™s tragic death, and being petrified of starting a family.
Freddy depicts what itâ€™s like to get caught up in a â€śshit stormâ€ť of drug use and how spiritual trips to India jump-started his positive outlook on the world.
In the first installment of the Freddy Corbin series, we get familiar with Freddy’s tattoos and see his two Oakland tattoo parlors, Temple and Tattoo 13. Freddy’s style is explained by his right hand man and fellow tattooer, Jason Mcafee. We also get a chance to speak with another Oakland legend, pro skater and chopper guy, Max Schaaf, about understanding Mr. Corbin.
In the third and final episode of the Mike Rubendall’s Tattoo Age series, Mike gives us a glimpse into his busy schedule: getting up at 5am every morning in order to draw sketches before Dad-duties begin. Mikeâ€™s mentor, Frank Romano, talks about the many ways in which Mike has surprised him throughout his career with his work hard, play hard mentality, that leaves no room for vacations.
