Hypebeast catches up with Mister Cartoon and Nike Sportswear in Chicago as they celebrated the launch of their collaboration for the 2010 World Cup. Cartoon discusses the importance of representing the United States with his artwork and giving back to young artists and creatives.

Mister Cartoon discusses his collaborations with Nike and his thoughts on being picked as the American artist for the True Colors Artist Collaboration.

“The man’s hand style is recognized around the world and is both menacing and beautiful. Bred in Los Angeles, Mister Cartoon’s art work can be seen on the arms of our time’s most lauded musicians. His work is steeped in the East Los Angeles Chicano culture of low riders and graffiti.

Nike Sportswear chose Mister Cartoon as the American artist for the True Colors Artist Collaboration. In this video Cartoon breaks down the creative process behind the logos and mascot he created.”

“Calling himself “Mister Cartoon,” this Los Angeles street art legend has had a strong relationship with Nike for many years. His detailed black and white drawings are highly sought after in the music world and beyond. When presented with this project, Cartoon jumped at the opportunity to work on a uniform that would represent the country he loves. His eagle mascot is tough as nails, with a halo of stars and a look in his eye that says, “Don’t mess with the U.S.” On the crest, “USA” is written in Cartoon’s modified version of old English and scrolls remind wearers of the visual language of tattoos art.”
